We perform all of our treatments on the WaveLight® EX500 Laser, the fastest refractive surgery platform available in the U.S.. The only excimer laser to operate at 500Hz, with an average treatment time of 1.4 seconds per diopter*. Built on trusted WaveLight excimer technology, the WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser is the next leap forward in fast, accurate refractive laser treatments.
Wavefront Optimization
The WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser utilizes wavefront optimized technology to capture and automatically compensate for the unique curvature of your eyes, allowing your doctor to customize your laser vision correction treatment and preserve the highest quality of vision.
With earlier laser systems, the “optical zone”, or area of correction, was centered on the front of the cornea; the result was a flattened circular area that ended with an abrupt edge, causing unwanted side effects like poor night vision, glare, and halos.
The illustration below demonstrates the use of additional pulses to the cornea periphery which preserves the aspherical shape of the cornea. This compensation, combined with the incredible small 1mm size of the laser beam, produces a smooth, effective optical zone that results in higher quality vision.
PerfectPulse™ Technology and Smart Energy Control
The Allegretto laser is the fastest and most precise laser system with the ability to treat the widest range of nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. The PerfectPulse Technology™ safely and accurately controls every single laser pulse from start to finish. It is applied to help ensure safe and precise work at high speed.
Smart Energy Control automatically measures and balances the energy level to ensure that each laser pulse delivers the same accurate result. After the beam has been created, it passes through three check points, where the energy level is checked and adjusted if necessary, ensuring that the beam is perfectly attuned to its destination.
Eye Tracking Technology
High-speed eye tracking is used to follow the eye’s fastest movements. Every 4-6 milliseconds, the eye’s location is measured and the internal mirrors of the WaveLight are automatically aligned. Just before each pulse is released, a final check is made to confirm the position of the eye. This happens 200 times every second, once for every laser pulse.
As a result of these unique technologies, the WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser is completely controlled, achieving the most accurate level of correction possible.
Oculus Pentacam
The Oculus Pentacam is an essential tool for diagnosis and management of corneal, cataract, and refractive surgery.
The innovative technology of the Pentacam has enabled physicians to analyze the front surfaces of the eye with an accuracy that was previously not available, thus permitting them to diagnose eye conditions and diseases with greater confidence.
The pentacam captures a high resolution image of the anterior eye segment and provides information from the anterior corneal surface to the posterior crystalline capsule. The images generated are three-dimensional rotating models used for corneal topographic and chamber analysis. They are movable presentations that are highly reliable and precise.

What is 20/20 Vision?
Generally speaking, if your visual acuity is determined to be 20/20, you see at 20 feet what a person with normal vision sees at 20 feet. Comparatively, if you have 20/40 vision, you see at 20 feet what a person with normal vision could see from 40 feet. And, if you’re one of the lucky ones who has 20/15 vision, you can see at 20 feet what others would have to move up to 15 feet to see.

It's been 2&1/2 years since I had PRK (a form of LASIK) done to my eyes. Everyone was extremely thorough in making sure that I was a good fit for surgery by performing different tests on me. Very kind people. I did the research prior to and found that this was the most affordable place around. They are experienced. The procedure went without a hitch and was painless. Putting in eye drops was the only difficulty for me afterwards, because I've never used them. But they gave me practice drops well we before the surgery so I was well prepared after surgery. Your eyes will need some time to heal and recover after surgery. With the guidance of the people at West Springfield Eye and LASIK, they made it easy. For anyone considering improving their eyesight, I highly recommend you go there! Get checked with an open mind to see if you can get it done. I always wanted eye corrective surgery since I was a child. My horrible eyesight was a hindrance to my self confidence, ability in sports, and school. I am pleased to provide this very positive review of the Eye & LASIK Center in West Springfield, MA, along with its staff. I had my consultation to determine if I was a suitable candidate for LASIK on Thurs, Aug 9, 2018. After the staff took the time to examine my eyes and take preliminary measurements, they deemed me to be a great candidate for LASIK. I agreed it was the best course of corrective action for my eyes. I was scheduled for pre-op eye measurements on Wed, Oct 3, 2018, and then my surgery was scheduled for Thurs, Oct 11, 2018. Dr. Warren and Dr. Walkowiak did an excellent job of explaining exactly what was going to happen before, during, and after the surgery. The cost of the surgery includes all pre and post op appointments. (4 in total: 1 before; 3 after) I had a good deal of discomfort the evening after my surgery, which was to be expected. I was able to see with crystal clear vision, albeit with moderate discomfort, the very next morning. That same morning was my first post-op appointment, when my vision was assessed at 20/15 in both eyes (prior vision was about 20/60). The two prescription drops, in addition to the tear drops, helped me have a swift recovery in both comfort and healing. I am writing this review because I am incredibly pleased with how well this experience panned out for me. I am very happy with how clear my vision is (still 20/15 as of my one-week post-op appointment); I feel like I got to hit the reset button on my vision. This was the best investment I could have made on myself.
