If you suffer from nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, and you feel that glasses or contact lenses limit your activities, LASIK may be right for you. Look beyond a lifetime of glasses and contact lenses…and enjoy a better way to see. When you’re deciding to have surgery on your eyes, you want to know what you can expect. Many surgeons tell you general LASIK results, but most don’t offer specific information about their results with people just like you … and most won’t put it in writing. But we will. No matter what your current situation is, we’ll provide you with specific information about your likelihood of achieving 20/20 vision. There’s no guessing and no generalities. Just the actual data to help you make an informed decision.

Personalized LASIK Screening
The first step in ensuring you’ll have an excellent outcome is to determine if you are a good candidate. At the Longwood Eye & LASIK Center, our doctors and vision correction counselors will assess your specific visual needs and recommend the best options for you.
Our Lasik Technology
WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser System
We perform all of our treatments on the WaveLight® EX500 Laser, the fastest refractive surgery platform available in the U.S.. The only excimer laser to operate at 500Hz, with an average treatment time of 1.4 seconds per diopter*. Built on trusted WaveLight excimer technology, the WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser is the next leap forward in fast, accurate refractive laser treatments.
Wavefront Optimization
The WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser utilizes wavefront optimized technology to capture and automatically compensate for the unique curvature of your eyes, allowing your doctor to customize your laser vision correction treatment and preserve the highest quality of vision.
With earlier laser systems, the “optical zone”, or area of correction, was centered on the front of the cornea; the result was a flattened circular area that ended with an abrupt edge, causing unwanted side effects like poor night vision, glare, and halos.
The illustration below demonstrates the use of additional pulses to the cornea periphery which preserves the aspherical shape of the cornea. This compensation, combined with the incredible small 1mm size of the laser beam, produces a smooth, effective optical zone that results in higher quality vision.
PerfectPulse™ Technology and Smart Energy Control
The Allegretto laser is the fastest and most precise laser system with the ability to treat the widest range of nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. The PerfectPulse Technology™ safely and accurately controls every single laser pulse from start to finish. It is applied to help ensure safe and precise work at high speed.
Smart Energy Control automatically measures and balances the energy level to ensure that each laser pulse delivers the same accurate result. After the beam has been created, it passes through three check points, where the energy level is checked and adjusted if necessary, ensuring that the beam is perfectly attuned to its destination.
Eye Tracking Technology
High-speed eye tracking is used to follow the eye’s fastest movements. Every 4-6 milliseconds, the eye’s location is measured and the internal mirrors of the WaveLight are automatically aligned. Just before each pulse is released, a final check is made to confirm the position of the eye. This happens 200 times every second, once for every laser pulse.
As a result of these unique technologies, the WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser is completely controlled, achieving the most accurate level of correction possible.
Oculus Pentacam
The Oculus Pentacam is an essential tool for diagnosis and management of corneal, cataract, and refractive surgery.
The innovative technology of the Pentacam has enabled physicians to analyze the front surfaces of the eye with an accuracy that was previously not available, thus permitting them to diagnose eye conditions and diseases with greater confidence.
The pentacam captures a high resolution image of the anterior eye segment and provides information from the anterior corneal surface to the posterior crystalline capsule. The images generated are three-dimensional rotating models used for corneal topographic and chamber analysis. They are movable presentations that are highly reliable and precise.
Key advantages of the rotating image process are:
- Precise measurements of the central cornea
- The correction of the eye’s movement
- The easy fixation for the patient
- Extremely short examination time
Best Diagnostic Technology for LASIK Treatment
We use only the most advanced diagnostic equipment to determine your candidacy with the utmost confidence. During your free 60-minute consultation, we’ll perform a thorough examination including:
- auto-refraction
- pupillometry
- corneal topography
- pachymetry
These tell us about, not only your prescription but the size of your pupils, the shape, health and thickness of your cornea, and the level of aberrations present in your visual system. All are critical in determining if LASIK is right for you.

What is 20/20 Vision?
Generally speaking, if your visual acuity is determined to be 20/20, you see at 20 feet what a person with normal vision sees at 20 feet. Comparatively, if you have 20/40 vision, you see at 20 feet what a person with normal vision could see from 40 feet. And, if you’re one of the lucky ones who has 20/15 vision, you can see at 20 feet what others would have to move up to 15 feet to see.
Will I See 20/20 After LASIK?
After LASIK, most patients see as well, if not better, than they did with their glasses or contacts. As a matter of fact, one thing that makes our office special, is that we’ll provide you with our actual results with other patients as your same prescription – in writing. Whatever your prescription, we’ll provide you with specific information about your likelihood of achieving 20/20 vision. No guessing. No generalities. Just the actual data to help you make an informed decision.

LASIK Eye Surgery Results
Results matter most. So be sure to research what other patients are saying about their own experience with your surgeon. Specifically, look for reviews about how they were treated, before, during and after their LASIK procedure.
Also, pay attention to their reviews about their vision after LASIK. How well do they see? Are they happy with their vision? Your LASIK experience should be both enjoyable and effective. Taking time to identify top surgeons with outstanding patient care will help you achieve both.

Testimonials
I got a laser eye procedure (ASA) and had great results! I mostly dealt with Dr. Walkowiak who was very kind and informative, he told me ASA would be a better choice than LASIK in my case, and I trusted that he would have said if I was not a suitable candidate. Dr. Warren did the procedure which was very quick with minimal discomfort, maybe 20 minute max. The first two weeks of recovery were pretty hard. I had blurry vision and needed to use a lot of eye drops, but they told me all of this before so I was prepared. It was about a month when my vision stabilized to what it was like when I had glasses, but I was comfortable driving maybe 10 days later. My glasses prescription was -5.00; it's been about 3 months since the surgery and my vision is 20/20 now. If you want your vision corrected, go get a consultation to see if you're a good candidate, I would totally do it again.January 04, 2024
I've been going to this practice for a number of years. I've had both cataracts done as well as a very delicate surgery on my left retina performed by Dr. Ying. Dr. Spatcher gives very thorough routine eye exams and the folks at the front office are always very pleasant. As long as they keep up the good work I won't go anywhere else for my eye care needs.January 04, 2024
I’ve been treated by Dr. Ying, Dr. Fay, and Dr. Maher. I’ve found them all to be exceptional providers, always patient and kind as they inform me of my necessary medical care and answer all my questions. They are all highly educated and skilled, professional, and experienced. I’m so glad I can access the level of care they bring here to Fitchburg! In addition, the staff are all so very friendly and helpful making all my trips to the office so pleasant.December 28, 2023

Had LASIK done here a week ago, so it’s an early review of course. But I can say the staff at Longwood are all fantastic - Dr Walkowiak did all my pre and post op care, and Dr Warren performed the procedure. Both have been wonderful to work with, and I couldn’t be more happy with my results so far. The procedure was painless and extremely quick - I think I was in the room for less than 10 minutes. My eyes were a little uncomfortable afterwards but took a nap (which accidentally ended up being a 4 hour nap). When I woke up, I felt totally fine, and I could see clearly, even through the plastic eye covers. One week down the line and my vision is better than 20/20, with the expectation that it’ll only continue to improve over the next month or so. Also a quick note about some of the 1 star reviews, it seems like at least a few of those are actually people trying to review the practice next door (which shares the building and lobby space), not Longwood Eye and LASIK Center. — Quick update about a year post-op, couldn’t be happier with how it turned out! Didn’t have any complications and my vision has stayed great - huge thanks to Dr Walkowiak and Dr Warren!December 28, 2023

I’m I am never disappointed in my treatment at Longwood Eye and LASIK Center. Dr. Ying is a superb doctor and carried me through the years when Covid was raging when many doctors close their shops. People who work with them are always polite, helpful and do their best to accommodate my needs a long way for my macular degeneration shots, and Dr. Ying has kept my left eye in perfect condition, actually increased eyesight somewhat, and has helped me maintained some vision in an eye that was quite visually impaired to begin with so I could not be happier.December 27, 2023
The doctors and staff are great. I have been going for a couple years. My vision issue was diagnosed quickly and was treated in a timely manner. Thank you Dr. Ying and staff for the best care. I would not go anywhere else. Thank youDecember 19, 2023
The staff (people behind the counter) are always pleasant and helpful. Dr. Warren, Dr. Lotufo, and Dr. Ying have been so very helpful in teaching me how to manage my glaucoma medication and reassuring me about the healthy status of my macula. I always feel comfortable and well cared for, and my questions get complete and helpful answers. Since Dr. Warren did my cataract surgery I have the best, clearest vision I have ever had in my whole life and I am so grateful to receive all this wonderful care (and effective prescriptions) through my health insurance without having to manage all the paperwork myself. These people are the best, I can't recommend them highly enough!December 18, 2023
Cataract surgery was efficient and went quickly and smoothly. I highly recommend Dr. Warren.December 18, 2023
