The first step in ensuring you’ll have an excellent outcome is to determine if you are a good candidate. At the Longwood Eye & LASIK Center, our doctors and vision correction counselors will assess your specific visual needs and recommend the best options for you.
Our Lasik Technology
WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser System
We perform all of our treatments on the WaveLight® EX500 Laser, the fastest refractive surgery platform available in the U.S.. The only excimer laser to operate at 500Hz, with an average treatment time of 1.4 seconds per diopter*. Built on trusted WaveLight excimer technology, the WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser is the next leap forward in fast, accurate refractive laser treatments.
Wavefront Optimization
The WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser utilizes wavefront optimized technology to capture and automatically compensate for the unique curvature of your eyes, allowing your doctor to customize your laser vision correction treatment and preserve the highest quality of vision.
With earlier laser systems, the “optical zone”, or area of correction, was centered on the front of the cornea; the result was a flattened circular area that ended with an abrupt edge, causing unwanted side effects like poor night vision, glare, and halos.
The illustration below demonstrates the use of additional pulses to the cornea periphery which preserves the aspherical shape of the cornea. This compensation, combined with the incredible small 1mm size of the laser beam, produces a smooth, effective optical zone that results in higher quality vision.
PerfectPulse™ Technology and Smart Energy Control
The Allegretto laser is the fastest and most precise laser system with the ability to treat the widest range of nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. The PerfectPulse Technology™ safely and accurately controls every single laser pulse from start to finish. It is applied to help ensure safe and precise work at high speed.
Smart Energy Control automatically measures and balances the energy level to ensure that each laser pulse delivers the same accurate result. After the beam has been created, it passes through three check points, where the energy level is checked and adjusted if necessary, ensuring that the beam is perfectly attuned to its destination.
Eye Tracking Technology
High-speed eye tracking is used to follow the eye’s fastest movements. Every 4-6 milliseconds, the eye’s location is measured and the internal mirrors of the WaveLight are automatically aligned. Just before each pulse is released, a final check is made to confirm the position of the eye. This happens 200 times every second, once for every laser pulse.
As a result of these unique technologies, the WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser is completely controlled, achieving the most accurate level of correction possible.
Oculus Pentacam
The Oculus Pentacam is an essential tool for diagnosis and management of corneal, cataract, and refractive surgery.
The innovative technology of the Pentacam has enabled physicians to analyze the front surfaces of the eye with an accuracy that was previously not available, thus permitting them to diagnose eye conditions and diseases with greater confidence.
The pentacam captures a high resolution image of the anterior eye segment and provides information from the anterior corneal surface to the posterior crystalline capsule. The images generated are three-dimensional rotating models used for corneal topographic and chamber analysis. They are movable presentations that are highly reliable and precise.
Key advantages of the rotating image process are:
- Precise measurements of the central cornea
- The correction of the eye’s movement
- The easy fixation for the patient
- Extremely short examination time
Best Diagnostic Technology for LASIK Treatment
We use only the most advanced diagnostic equipment to determine your candidacy with the utmost confidence. During your free 60-minute consultation, we’ll perform a thorough examination including:
- auto-refraction
- pupillometry
- corneal topography
- pachymetry
These tell us about, not only your prescription but the size of your pupils, the shape, health and thickness of your cornea, and the level of aberrations present in your visual system. All are critical in determining if LASIK is right for you.

What is 20/20 Vision?
Generally speaking, if your visual acuity is determined to be 20/20, you see at 20 feet what a person with normal vision sees at 20 feet. Comparatively, if you have 20/40 vision, you see at 20 feet what a person with normal vision could see from 40 feet. And, if you’re one of the lucky ones who has 20/15 vision, you can see at 20 feet what others would have to move up to 15 feet to see.
Will I See 20/20 After LASIK?
After LASIK, most patients see as well, if not better, than they did with their glasses or contacts. As a matter of fact, one thing that makes our office special, is that we’ll provide you with our actual results with other patients as your same prescription – in writing. Whatever your prescription, we’ll provide you with specific information about your likelihood of achieving 20/20 vision. No guessing. No generalities. Just the actual data to help you make an informed decision.

LASIK Eye Surgery Results
Results matter most. So be sure to research what other patients are saying about their own experience with your surgeon. Specifically, look for reviews about how they were treated, before, during and after their LASIK procedure.
Also, pay attention to their reviews about their vision after LASIK. How well do they see? Are they happy with their vision? Your LASIK experience should be both enjoyable and effective. Taking time to identify top surgeons with outstanding patient care will help you achieve both.

I had a wonderful experience with my Lasik procedure there and I have to say that both Dr. John F. Warren and Dr. Andrew Walkowiak are truly THE BEST. When I decided to do Lasik, I did some research on a few different places in the area and Longwood Eye and Lasik came up first and got the best reviews!! I contacted them and scheduled a free consultation app. I’m so glad that I was a candidate for lasik and did the procedure with them. It is a really life changing. The procedure went really smooth and it was faster than I expected. I did not feel any pain during and after AT ALL. Both doctors made me feel calm and confident and explained everything to me. The whole team were very kind and professional as well. Now I can see even better than what I did with my glasses and lenses before. If you’re looking to do Lasik, this is the place to go to. I HIGHLY recommend them.August 06, 2024
I got a laser eye procedure (ASA) and had great results! I mostly dealt with Dr. Walkowiak who was very kind and informative, he told me ASA would be a better choice than LASIK in my case, and I trusted that he would have said if I was not a suitable candidate. Dr. Warren did the procedure which was very quick with minimal discomfort, maybe 20 minute max. The first two weeks of recovery were pretty hard. I had blurry vision and needed to use a lot of eye drops, but they told me all of this before so I was prepared. It was about a month when my vision stabilized to what it was like when I had glasses, but I was comfortable driving maybe 10 days later. My glasses prescription was -5.00; it's been about 3 months since the surgery and my vision is 20/20 now. If you want your vision corrected, go get a consultation to see if you're a good candidate, I would totally do it again.July 20, 2024
I see Dr. Aaron Fay in the Fitchburg office. He is very knowledgeable, professional, kind, and friendly. Very pleased with Dr. Fay and his staff.July 11, 2024
Had cataract surgery for both eyes. Entire experience was excellent... from the entire staff to Dr. Warren. Everyone had time to answer any questions and explain the procedure itself. Highly recommend Dr. Warren !! It's been two months since my surgery and am very pleased with the results. Thank you.July 08, 2024
I wish I explored LASIK sooner. This office’s staff are incredibly knowledgeable, especially Dr. Warren who did my procedure & Dr. Walkowiak who I have met with prior to my procedure, as well as after for post-op. The surgery coordinator, Laura, was so helpful with answering questions, scheduling appointments and ensuring all questions were answered. I was a better candidate for PRK vs. LASIK which has been nothing but positive. It has been life changing to not have to wear contacts or glasses.July 06, 2024
I should have had LASIK years ago. I am overly impressed with the professionalism of the practice. The team has a strong commitment to quality and safety. I felt as though I was a strong part of the decision making process. From the initial consult to the last post-procedural appointment- I was never rushed. My questions were answered thoroughly and at a level at which I could understand what was being communicated. The team took their time with my assessments and made sure I had a thorough understanding of the pre and post procedural instructions. The team was fantastic. I would highly recommend Longwood Eye and LASIK to anyone seeking a professional and safe LASIK experience.July 04, 2024
Best decision I ever made was to have ASA eye surgery here (LASIK) and best money spent in my life. Dr Warren performed the procedure and everything went well. Can't thank him enough! It is truly a blessing to be able to see 20/20 currently and can almost see 20/10. This was 2 and half years ago when done. Staff are nice, building is clean etc. If you are thinking of getting LASIK done don't over think it just do it if you qualify!July 03, 2024
