How to erase wrinkles with little to no downtime

Cosmetic injectables are big business and are the hottest non-surgical cosmetic treatment in the world. BOTOX may be the most popular, but it treats only one type of wrinkle. Dermal fillers are different than BOTOX but have the same goal – to erase wrinkles with little to no downtime. Read on to learn more about dermal fillers and how they work.

Static vs. dynamic wrinkles

There are two types of wrinkles – dynamic and static wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles form in the skin when a muscle contracts from expressions such as laughing or frowning. BOTOX works wonders on these types of wrinkles but doesn’t work on static wrinkles. Dermal fillers work on static wrinkles, which show themselves at all times. They are the result of aging, the decreased production of collagen and elastin, sun damage and smoking.

Dermal fillers are injected through tiny needles beneath the muscle and “fill in” the treatment area, hence the name. They also fill in areas of volume loss, such as the cheeks, around the eyes and temple areas.

Restylane and Radiesse

There are many dermal fillers on the market, made of different ingredients and tackle static wrinkles in different ways. Restylane is one popular gel filler that is made of hyaluronic acid, which is naturally occurring in the body. The hyaluronic acid binds with water molecules in the treatment area to erase a wrinkle, soften a crease, plump skin and add hydration. It’s used to treat marionette lines that run from the corners of the mouth downwards, nasolabial folds that run from the nose to the mouth and the parentheses lines around the mouth.

Radiesse is different than Restylane and consists of calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres suspended in a water-based gel. Radiesse provides immediate volume and builds a support structure to return volume to and raise the skin. As the body absorbs the gel and metabolizes the microspheres, a reaction triggers the production of new collagen. Collagen production enhances natural-looking results and continues to work for up to a year or longer. Radiesse treats smile lines, marionette lines, pre-jowl folds, drooping corners of the mouth and wrinkles in the chin.

Dermal fillers work quickly with no downtime, and results can last a year or longer in most cases. If you’d like to learn more about our injectable cosmetic treatments for a youthful, rejuvenated look, schedule a consultation by calling Longwood Eye & LASIK Center today at (800) 676-5050.
