How to Tell If You Have Conjunctivitis

Conjunctivitis west springfield | Longwood Eye & LASIK Center As an eye condition that gets its reputation amongst middle school boys as the “fart on your pillow disorder,” conjunctivitis or pink eye is a lot more easy to catch than you might otherwise know of, and it doesn’t typically involve the said, “fart on your pillow.” Usually passed from one human to another by direct contact, conjunctivitis is an eye condition that is easily treatable. But how can you tell if you have it? Read on to learn more about some of the common symptoms.

Inflammation

If your eye is inflamed and you haven’t injured it in any way, this is a big indicator that you have conjunctivitis. Typically, the inflammation from conjunctivitis goes down with some antibiotic eye drops but sometimes it can get so bad that they eye swells shut.

Redness

The number one sign of pink eye is that your eye or eyes will become really red both on the actual eye itself and around it. In fact, when you wake up you may look in the mirror and just think that your eyes are really bloodshot but throughout the day symptoms won’t subside.

Itchiness

Another large indicator that you have pink eye is itchiness. Your eyes will not only be red and inflamed, but they will itch really badly as well. Luckily, the sooner you see one of our ophthalmologists at Longwood Eye & LASIK Center, the sooner you can get rid of the constant itchiness.

Fluid

If you wake up with some fluid coming out of your eye or if your eye has been crusted shut by dried fluid, this is another large sign that you may have pink eye. To get the fluid off of your eye, take a clean, warm washcloth and gently brush it off of your eye.
